Many people have asked, “why on earth would you want to go to Cameroon?” In order to answer that question, I need to first ask you a few questions so that you can know where we are coming from: Did you ever take the time to seriously ask yourself the question, what is life really all about? Where will YOU be when you die?
These are very important, even urgent, questions you need to ask yourself. Go look in today’s newspaper and note the ages of those who made it into the obituary page. It doesn’t matter what color you are, how much money you have, or what social rank you hold. You are dying and there is nothing you can do about it. You cannot buy one single day to add to your life. You may feel pretty “in control” of your life, but as you look at the obituaries, do you think that any of those people knew that the last day of their life on earth was here? It’s more likely they didn’t.
Most people don’t think about those things because death is a very scary thing when the other side is an unknown. Most people also conduct their lives as though they will live forever. Some people will, some people won’t.
I would like to share with you some Good News: You can!
The following, are known as the “four spiritual laws.” I would encourage you to look up the scripture references and read them in the context in which they are found in your Bible. If you don’t have a Bible, borrow one.
The Four Spiritual Laws
- God loves you:
God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. [John 3:16]
- God has a plan for you:
[Jesus said,] “I am come that they may have life, and might have it abundantly.”
“Abundantly” = “A full and meaningful life.”
- But… Man is sinful and separated from God:
All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” [Romans 3:23]
Man was created to have a relationship with God, but he chose to go his own way, and our fellowship with God was broken. This attitude towards God, whether passive indifference, or outright rebellion is evidence of what the Bible calls sin. God is Holy and perfect and cannot be in the presence of this sinfulness.
Man is separated from God by a chasm caused by Sin.
- By dying on the cross, Jesus paid the penalty we deserve.
God demonstrated His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us…” [Romans 5:8]
This is the only way we can come to God…
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the father but through me.” [John 14:6]
